Airports in Vienna - Robust Passenger Increase in the Initial Three Months

Vienna Airport Group is experiencing a surge in passenger traffic and growth, as evidenced by the figures for Q1 2025. The airport served a total of 7.9 million passengers during this period, marking a 4.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

The growth in long-haul traffic to Asia was particularly strong, with over 30% more passengers travelling to Asia compared to Q1 2024. This increase is likely due to the upcoming direct flights to Singapore, operated by both Austrian Airlines and Scoot, starting in June 2025.

At the Vienna location, passenger traffic increased by 7.6% to 2.8 million passengers in April 2025, and specifically by 1.8% to 6.1 million passengers in Q1 2025. The focus of the growth is on the expansion of Terminal 3, with shell construction scheduled for summer 2025.

The Vienna Airport Group is also making significant investments in infrastructure. A modern infrastructure with 5-star quality for passengers is being created in the new terminal areas, including new shops, lounges, and catering facilities. The commissioning of the new terminal areas, around 70,000 square meters, is planned for the first half of 2027.

In addition, Austria's largest logistics park with 80,000 square meters of space is set to go into operation. The Office Park 4 will be expanded by an additional 17,000 square meters, and a hotel with 510 rooms, the largest at the location, is currently under construction.

The financial results for Q1 2025 are also impressive. Turnover increased by 7.4% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 225.9 million euros. EBITDA for Q1 2025 was 81.3 million euros, a 2.2% increase from the previous year. The profit after taxes improved by 7.3% to 39.9 million euros, and the operative cash flow increased significantly, to 95.2 million euros.

The management expects a turnover of 1.08 billion euros, an EBITDA of 440 million euros, and an annual profit of 230 million euros for 2025. These expectations are based on investments of approximately 300 million euros in 2025.

Dominik Lelle, a member of the online editorial team of AERO INTERNATIONAL since 2023, reports on these developments. The growth and expansion at Vienna Airport Group are promising signs of a robust recovery in the aviation industry post-pandemic.
