Anniversary marked by sunshine, diversity, and strong commitment

Brilliant sunshine marked the 20th anniversary celebration of the Bad Brückenau World Shop, which featured a vibrant regional market in the pedestrian zone. The event commenced at 10 am with Mayor Jan Marberg, Martina Kirchner, head of the World Shop team, Dirk Hönerlage, 1st chairman of the Bad Brückenau One World Group e.V., and Mark Decker, co-organizer of the regional market, officially inaugurating the festivities.

Decker emphasized the connection between regional and fair trade, stating, "We are familiar with fair economic cycles regionally, but we must also think globally. The farmer in the Rhön and the coffee farmer in Ethiopia both deserve a price that appreciates their labor. Fairness should not cease at national borders."

Martina Kirchner expressed delight over the participation of numerous children, as the music school orchestra inaugurated the market. The market, brimming with regional stalls, open shops, and informational displays from various associations, rendered the pedestrian zone bustling with activity. One could learn about a project supported by the World Shop at the "Water for People" association's stand.

The World Shop itself offered a chocolate and wine tasting, allowing guests to sample the high quality of fair-trade products. A diverse children's program, with attractions like a bouncy castle, petting zoo, and DIY offerings from the Rhön Nature Experience Center, Nature Conservation Association, and JURA, drew many families to the pedestrian zone, creating a lively atmosphere.

Ludwigstraße resonated with a noticeable cheerfulness and vitality throughout the day. Pedestrians strolled over the market, indulged in culinary delights, and engaged in casual conversations. Maja Kirchner from the organizing team complimented the event, stating, "The entire pedestrian zone was vivid and lively, exactly what we desired for the World Shop's birthday." The event, driven by the World Shop team, demonstrated a strong example of lived sustainability, global awareness, and local networking, with numerous participants like the Fruit and Garden Association, the Twinning Association, and the Carnival Society showcasing the diverse social commitment in the Fairtrade town.

A special highlight was the "living library" in the Pop-Up Store Kreativsinn, featuring representatives from the fire department, students, the gymnastic club, a Brazilian volunteer from the Volkersberg, and the mayor as living books for personal conversations about civic engagement. The festivities marked the start of a series of anniversary actions, including shopping assistance with Brückenau VIPs. Further details and dates can be found online. The anniversary products remain available, although the anniversary chocolate sold out promptly.

Fair trade organizations in Germany, such as the Bad Brückenau World Shop, aim to foster equitable trade practices, ensuring producers in developing countries receive fair prices, work under decent conditions, abide by sustainable practices, and enjoy capacity-building support. These objectives help improve economic conditions and promote sustainable development. Common products include textiles, food items, and handicrafts.
