Ellen Pompeo's Airport Scare: Sunflower Seeds Trigger Bomb Squad Response

Bomb Squad Dispatched to Ellen Pompey's Snack Scene After Suspicious Find

Stuck at the airport... all because of some organic sunflower seeds. That's the unfortunate experience shared by American actress Ellen Pompeo in an interview with "Travel & Leisure".

As the lead actress of the medical drama "Grey's Anatomy", Pompeo is no stranger to drama. But this time, it was an unexpected encounter with security at the airport.

Pompeo had packed a small snack for her flight – a bag of sunflower seeds from Erewhon, known for their organic, pricey offerings. Little did she know, this innocent snack would cause quite the commotion at the security check.

"What's going on? Is this a joke?" Pompeo asked the officers, bewildered. Apparentry, a chemical on the packaging of the pricey, fancy, organic sunflower seeds had triggered the alarm. The actress-director even offered to get rid of the bag to speed things up, but her proposal was declined. Instead, she had to entertain the bomb squad, who eventually confirmed the unopened bag was safe and allowed her to continue her journey.

"I was literally stopped for an hour and they even called the bomb squad!" Pompeo shared, still shaking her head over the incident. "I almost missed the flight," she admitted, unable to believe that sunflower seeds would cause such a stir.

Fear of Germs and Flying

Traveling remains a joy for Ellen Pompeo, despite the airport drama and fear of flying. She credited her three children, Stella Luna (15), Sienna May (10), and Eli Christopher (8), with helping her conquer her fear of flying. "I like to hold my kids' hands when we take off," she confessed, a bit selfishly, she admitted. Her kids might feel her apprehension, but she counts on their presence to keep her calm.

Pompeo also has a phobia of germs, so maintaining hygiene during flights is essential. "I have to do what Naomi Campbell does and wipe down the entire seat," Pompeo explained, referring to the supermodel's viral video showing her cleaning a plane seat with disinfectant in a protective suit and a mask. Pompeo ensures she always has water, hand sanitizer, and baby wipes in her carry-on to maintain a sterile environment. With this newfound knowledge, it's safe to assume that sunflower seeds are off Pompeo's in-flight snack menu from now on.
