Coastal Locales of Agnes Water and Town of 1770

In the heart of Queensland, Australia, lies a charming coastal town known as Agnes Water. A place that has become a second home to many, including myself, who first visited in 2020.

Agnes Water, named by Captain Cook who landed there in 1770, boasts a beautiful climate, with dreamy weather even in winter. Nestled within this picturesque town is the Escape 1770 Motel, where I had the pleasure of staying on my latest visit. The motel overlooks Agnes Water bay, offering a breathtaking view that never fails to impress.

Just a short 10-minute drive from Agnes Water, you'll find Seventeen Seventy, home to the Captain Cook Memorial and the marina. This location offers a fantastic view of the sunset, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike.

The main attraction in Agnes Water, however, is Main Beach. This popular spot is perfect for a leisurely walk, surfing, or bodyboarding. For those seeking a more adventurous experience, Secret Beach, hidden behind the rocks of Main Beach, requires sturdy shoes to access but offers a secluded, private cove experience.

If you're feeling peckish after your beach adventures, The Holiday Cafe on Main Beach is a recommended stop. Known for their delicious smoked salmon bagel, it's the perfect place to refuel before continuing your day.

For surf enthusiasts, Springs Beach, another 10-minute drive away, is a must-visit. When conditions align, a 300-meter right wave can be found here, ideal for mid-length, long, or softboards. What's more, Springs Beach is often empty, making it the perfect spot for catching some waves without the crowds.

To reach Springs Beach, a gravel road branches off from Springs Rd, passable without four-wheel drive. From the parking lot, a boardwalk leads down to the beach, making it easily accessible for all. For those interested in exploring further, the Red Rock Trail starts from Springs Beach, passing through three small coves before reaching Red Rock.

On the second Sunday of every month, the Agnes Water Markets take place on the SES Grounds in Seventeen Seventy. Here, you'll find fresh produce, snacks, handmade jewelry, and second-hand clothing, making it a great place to pick up some local treasures.

Whether you're a surfing enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Agnes Water, Australia, has something for everyone. With its beautiful beaches, charming town, and welcoming atmosphere, it's no wonder this hidden gem is becoming increasingly popular among travellers.

  1. For those who enjoy outdoor-living and sports, Agnes Water offers a fantastic surfing spot at Springs Beach, where a 300-meter right wave can be found for mid-length, long, or softboards.
