Delightful historic train journey on International Children's Day

The historic train ride on the Wuppertalbahn, which departed from the main station, marked the opening of the section from Wuppertal-Rauental (Oberbarmen) to Beyenburg for tourist train rides once again. The inaugural train, which took place on February 8, 2025, had approximately 250 guests on board.

The idyllic town of Beyenburg, serving as the easternmost district of Wuppertal, was a welcoming sight for the historic train upon arrival. Hundreds of people gathered to greet the train, making the occasion even more special.

However, one fact remains elusive: the name of the person who gave the opening speech for the "Wupperschiene" at the inauguration of the tourist section from Wuppertal-Rauental to Beyenburg.

The association "Wupperschiene" made the operation on the museal/touristic track possible after years of preparation, including bureaucratic approval procedures. The train journey took the passengers from the main station to Oberbarmen, then along the Wupper river to Beyenburg.

The first ride departs from Beyenburg to Oberbarmen around 10 am, with the second departure around 11 am. The Wuppertalbahn offers a special day out for families, with children under six years old joining for free, and those aged 6 to 14 paying five euros for the round trip.

The association's plan includes extending the route to Dahlerau, Vogelsmühle, Dahlhausen, and a stop at the Staudamm of the Wuppertalsperre Radevormwald-Wilhelmstal. However, this section is not yet approved for operation due to remaining tasks.

Access to the historic carriages is not barrier-free, but assistance is available. Exact departure times can be found on the Wuppertalbahn's homepage at www.wuppertalbahn.eu. Photos from the inaugural ride are available for those who missed out on the experience.

A small ceremony with a speech by Ulrich Grotstollen, chairman of the association "Wupperschiene", marked the opening of the route. The idyllic town of Beyenburg, with its charm and beauty, is always inviting for an excursion, especially during a break in late summer sunshine, combined with a delicious ice cream from local catering, when everyday life seems to fade away.
