EU Commission Offers 36,000 Free Travel Passes for Young Explorers

Brussels – The European Commission is providing 36,000 tickets for a complimentary European expedition to youths between July 2023 and September 2024. This announcement by the Brussels authority invites young travelers, aged 18 and above as of the trip's commencement, to embark on a month-long exploration of Europe via train, free of charge.

Applications were accepted in April for eligible participants. The program extends inclusion to citizens of not only EU member states, but also Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey.

Notably, Germany has garnered the highest number of applications, followed by Spain and Poland. A total of over 6,100 German youth are slated to receive EU-funded travel passes, according to Commission data. The DiscoverEU program, initiated in 2018, has granted a total of 391,000 such tickets thus far. Up to additional advantages like discounted accommodations and cultural institution admissions are among the benefits accompanying the train ticket.

No specific information regarding the exact number of DiscoverEU tickets to be distributed in 2023 has been provided. However, the Commission is set to dish out 35,500 free travel passes for young people in 2025 [1][3]. For details pertaining to the 2023 allocation, further research in previous press releases or official European Union announcements may be necessary.
