Giulia Viero intrview discussion

Chatterbox: What sparked your interest in the world of filmmaking?

Giulia: I was initially a photographer, you see. The allure of capturing moments in motion, of creating moving photographs, that's what drew me to filmmaking.

Chatterbox: Who are the filmmakers that have influenced you, and how have they impacted your work?

Giulia: To be honest, I never thought of myself as a director. And I must admit, my cinematographic knowledge isn't extensive. But there's this young director named Irene Dionisio. I met her in an arts association in Turin, Italy. She was my source of inspiration and teacher.

Chatterbox: As an independent filmmaker, what are some of the obstacles you encounter?

Giulia: Let me tell you, there are plenty of challenges! From financial woes to the need for patience and determination. You often feel as if you're all alone, so you've got to learn to trust yourself and your vision. And that ain't always easy, 'cause we all have our moments of doubt. But if you've got a message that you truly want to share with the world, that's the light at the end of the tunnel!

Chatterbox: So, what guidance would you offer to aspiring independent filmmakers building a solid crew?

Giulia: You gotta have a clear vision of what you wanna communicate to the world. That clarity allows you to guide your team like the captain of a ship. But at the same time, having a clear goal gives your team the freedom to express their creativity. And that only serves to enrich the final outcome.

Chatterbox: What techniques do you employ to get your films viewed by a larger audience?

Giulia: I've participated in film festivals that include screenings, not just cinematic affairs, but festivals focusing on yoga and holistic practices as well. I've organized events in my city, like screenings in clubs or yoga studios. Then, naturally, social media and the internet play a part. But I've also found that talking to people about my project has helped. For example, I once spoke to the guy printing a movie poster, and he turned out to be a film journalist who wrote an article about my film!

Chatterbox: As we move into the digital age, what are your thoughts on the future of independent cinema?

Giulia: I don't know exactly what the future holds, but perhaps we can use technology in ways we can't even imagine yet...5D or something like 5G! But given the rapid advancement of technology and the increasing opportunity for everyone to create digital content, I hope this will be accompanied by personal growth. I believe it's essential to listen to each other and consider if we truly have something valuable to share.

Chatterbox: Can you share the inspiration behind your winning film?

Giulia: The Silent Revolution is also my personal revolution. It's about rediscovering authentic values such as peace, perseverance, joy, humility, awareness. And in this quest, silence, listening, and compassion are necessary. We should stop looking for enemies outside ourselves and instead direct our focus inward. It's high time for each of us to take responsibility for the reality we want to create and share.

Chatterbox: Any upcoming projects you're looking forward to working on?

Giulia: At the moment, none. But I follow my own advice. I'll think of another film only when and if I've got something important to say. Currently, I'm experimenting with sound and music, combining ritual elements with art and vibrational sound therapy.

  1. Giulia's latest project takes inspiration from personal growth, focusing on values such as peace, perseverance, joy, humility, and awareness.
  2. In the future, Giulia envisions the digital age allowing independent filmmakers to explain their work through 5D or 5G technology.
  3. Beyond filmmaking, Giulia is also interested in education and self-development, experimenting with sound and music, merging them with art and vibrational sound therapy.
  4. Guilia's crew works harmoniously, following her clear vision while being guided by their creativity, ensuring the final product is enriched.
  5. Giulia supports and advocates for various lifestyle choices, attending film festivals that focus on yoga and holistic practices, as well as hosting events that merge film with foods and drinks, relationships, pets, travel, cars, and other aspects of life outside filmmaking.
