Greifswald Launches Two New Public Bike Repair Workshops
Greifswald has launched two new public bicycle self-help workshops, offering residents a place to repair and maintain their bikes with the help of volunteers. The workshops, located in Klex youth center and SchwalBe district center, are open on Wednesdays and Fridays respectively, following the principle of 'help for self-help'.
The first workshop, situated in the Klex youth center, is operated by ADFC every Wednesday from 4 pm. The initiative was driven by volunteer engagement, although the exact organizer and financier remain unclear. Meanwhile, the second workshop at SchwalBe was selected by a citizen vote held at the 'Day of Decision' last year. Funded with 12,000 euros from the city's budget, it offers a freely accessible repair station usable at any time, in addition to the scheduled workshops on Fridays from 4 pm to 6 pm. Both workshops aim to promote sustainable mobility and encourage community engagement.
Greifswald's two new bicycle self-help workshops provide residents with accessible and affordable bike repair services. Backed by volunteer initiatives and city funding, these workshops not only support sustainable transportation but also foster community involvement.
