Fresh Take

Hungary's President, Tamas Sulyok, is jetting off to Romania from June 6 to June 9, kickstarting a private tour that includes more than just the ethnic Hungarian heartlands.

Friday's agenda will see Sulyok visiting the Roman Catholic Theological High School "Saint Elizabeth" in Lunca de Sus, Harghita County, then Immanuël, the Roman Catholic Parish in Ghimeș Făget, Bacău County. Agerpres confirms this schedule.

Saturday's itinerary involves Sulyok participating in the liturgy and the Catholic Pentecost pilgrimage at Șumuleu Ciuc. On Monday, he'll witness the consecration of a cross in Cașin Pass, in honor of Székely heroes, and attend the Pentecost service at the fortified Roman Catholic church in Sânzieni, Covasna County. The grand tour will conclude in Ilieni, Covasna County, where he plans to visit the Christian Foundation for Youth and Diaconia Center.

It's worth noting that following the Romanian president's victory in the recent elections, Sulyok extended his congratulations to Nicusor Dan, signifying diplomatic engagement between Hungary and Romania.[2]

For a deeper understanding of specific events or meetings with ethnic Hungarian communities during this tour, additional sources or official announcements from the Hungarian government or Romanian authorities might offer more insights.

Upon his return to Hungary from his travel to Romania, President Tamas Sulyok plans to share his experiences from the cultural-travel tour, which extended beyond the ethnic Hungarian heartlands. Despite the focus on political and general-news headlines, this private trip highlighted the importance of fostering cultural connections, promoting mutual understanding, and reinforcing diplomatic relationships between Hungary and Romania.
