Illuminated Jack-O'-Lantern Arrangement for a Spooky Front Entrance During Halloween
Pumpkin Topiary: DIY Halloween Decoration
Dive into creating an adorable and unique Halloween pumpkin topiary with this step-by-step guide! Perfect for your mystical front porch for all you pumpkin-loving ghouls and goblins.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate Beginner
What you'll require:
- 5 artificial pumpkins in various hues (we grabbed ours from Michaels)
- 1' diameter x 60'' long dowel rod
- Reusable plastic Halloween planter
- 5 strands of outdoor Christmas lights (we opted for these)
- Graphite pencil and eraser
- Soil
- Recycled 2 x 4s
- Hay
- Black Duct Tape
- Scissors
- Acrylic paint (optional)
Equipment:
- Dremel 4000 tool with tile cutting bit and sanding drum (or a multi-purpose cutting bit)
- Drill with 1'' spade bit
Step-by-step instructions:
- Draw faces onto each pumpkin using the pencil.
- Meticulously carve the faces into the pumpkins using your Dremel tool.
- To perfect the carved elements like teeth, noses, and eyes, sand them using the Dremel's sanding drum.
- Remove any remaining pencil etchings.
- Lay two pieces of 2 x 4s inside the base planter to form an "X".
- Using the drill, create two holes (one on top of the other) inside the wood in each 2 x 4. Insert the dowel rod through them and into the planter.
- Fill the planter with soil to secure the wood base and stabilize the dowel rod.
- Add hay around the base of the planter – just for added fall flair!
- Pierce three holes at angled positions in each pumpkin using the drill (one on the top, bottom, and back to accommodate the dowel).
- Slide each pumpkin onto the dowel rod.
- Feed the Christmas lights through the bottom hole of each pumpkin, leaving their ends free.
- Cut a piece of black Duct Tape with a slit – drape it over the light ends and secure them to the pumpkin with the Duct Tape.
- Place the topiary near an outlet or use an extension cord. Plug in the lights to illuminate your masterpiece!
