Kazakhstan sets sights on generating 10 billion euros from tourism and welcoming 15 million visitors by 2029
Kazakhstan is making significant strides in enhancing its tourism industry, with a series of initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and amenities in popular tourist destinations. These moves are part of a larger plan to attract more visitors and boost the sector's economic output.
Infrastructure Improvements
One of the key areas of focus is transportation. The government is enhancing rail systems, including implementing border control inside trains, making travel to Central Asia's top sites more seamless. This is further bolstered by plans to launch direct flights between Astana and Belgrade, with potential onward routes to other destinations.
In addition, a new airport is being built to provide access to Katon Karagay National Park, enhancing accessibility to natural attractions.
Amenities and Digital Solutions
To enhance the tourist experience, Kazakhstan is also investing in digital solutions. An AI-driven app will be introduced to streamline bookings and navigation for tourists, while unique destinations like Baikonur Cosmodrome are being developed with glamping sites, hotels, and children's camps.
Multifunctional hotel complexes are also being constructed, such as the one planned in Belgrade as part of tourism cooperation with Serbia. This will not only cater to diverse tourist needs but also strengthen business and cultural ties between the two countries.
Impact on Tourism Growth
These improvements are expected to significantly enhance the tourist experience in Kazakhstan, contributing to the country's growth targets in the tourism sector. The goal is to attract 15 million annual visitors by enhancing the accessibility and appeal of tourist destinations.
The government also aims to increase the tourism sector's economic output to €10 billion by 2029, adding €3 billion to its current value. Kazakhstan also seeks to improve its position in the World Economic Forum's Travel and Tourism Development Index by strengthening its tourism infrastructure and services.
These initiatives, along with a 20% growth in tourism investments in 2024, totalling €1.6 billion annually, indicate a promising future for Kazakhstan's tourism industry.
