Kazakhstan's 'Shashu' and 'Suyinschi' Traditions Bring Joy and Warmth

Kazakhstan's rich cultural heritage is reflected in its unique traditions. Two such customs, 'Shashu' and 'Suyinschi', have been practiced for centuries, bringing joy and warmth to celebrations and everyday life.

Shashu, an ancient Kazakh tradition, involves throwing sweets and coins to guests during joyful occasions. This custom, which translates to 'scatter' or 'throw out', is believed to bring happiness to those who pick up the scattered treats. It is often practiced during weddings and housewarmings.

Suyinschi, another Kazakh tradition, is a way to share good news. When someone receives good news, such as the birth of a child, they share it with others, who then give a small gift or ask how they can reciprocate. This tradition reflects the deep warmth and wisdom of Kazakh culture. In 2018, Kazakhstan issued a commemorative coin titled 'Suyinschi' as part of the series 'Customs and National Games of Kazakhstan' to honor this tradition.

These Kazakh customs, along with others like Bata and Korimdik, reflect the country's centuries-old culture of hospitality, generosity, and joy. They continue to be practiced today, bringing communities together and preserving the nation's rich heritage.
