Latvia's Tourism Booms in April 2024 as Non-Residents Spend More Nights

Latvia's tourism sector showed steady growth in April 2024, with a notable increase in non-resident visitors. These guests spent an average of 1.77 nights at local accommodation establishments, contributing to a total of 305.4 thousand nights spent across the country.

Riga remained the most popular destination, hosting 80.1% of non-resident visitors, followed by Jūrmala (6.2%) and Mārupe municipality (4.2%). Residents preferred Riga (34.4%) and Jūrmala (10.4%) for their stays. The number of resident visitors in April 2024 was similar to the previous year but 17.9% higher than in 2019, reaching 70.5 thousand.

Non-resident arrivals accounted for 60% of total visitors, marking a 7.1% increase from April 2023 but a 27.5% decrease from April 2019. The nights spent by non-residents grew by 0.4% compared to April 2023, totaling 186.7 thousand. Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, and other European countries led the list of top non-resident visitors.

In the first four months of 2024, Latvia welcomed 598.7 thousand visitors, a 7.7% increase from the same period in 2023 but 10% fewer than in 2019. The tourism sector continues to recover, with non-resident visitors driving growth in April 2024.
