Marathon Boosts Bitcoin Mining with Texas Data Center; Bitmain Unveils Efficient ASIC Miner
Marathon Digital Holdings has bolstered its Bitcoin mining capabilities with the acquisition of a 200-megawatt data center in Garden City, Texas. The company aims for a significant increase in hashrate this year and next. Meanwhile, Bitmain has unveiled the Antminer S21 Pro, a new ASIC miner promising unmatched efficiency. As the Bitcoin price continues to rise, companies like Bitfarms and Riot Platforms are investing heavily in upgrades to stay competitive.
Marathon Digital Holdings' new data center in Garden City, Texas, is set to boost its hashrate to 37 EH/s by the end of 2024, with plans to reach 50 EH/s the following year. This expansion comes as the Bitcoin price's total hashrate is expected to rise, enhancing its security and appeal. The network's growth is driven by companies like Marathon, Bitmain, Bitfarms, and Riot Platforms, which are investing in new hardware and facilities to maintain profitability after the upcoming halving.
The Antminer S21 Pro, launched by Bitmain at the World Digital Mining Summit in Oman in 2024, boasts a hashrate of 234 TH/s and impressive energy efficiency of 15 J/TH. The miner can operate in harsh environments, withstanding temperatures from -20 to 45 degrees Celsius, humidity levels between 10 and 90 percent, and altitudes up to 2000 meters. Bitfarms, for its part, plans to invest $240 million in improved equipment, aiming for a hashrate of 21 EH/s by the end of the year.
Riot Platforms has also expanded its plans for a mining facility in Rockdale, Texas, increasing its estimated hashrate to 31 EH/s by the end of 2024. These investments come as the Bitcoin price prepares for a halving in about 16 days, which will reduce the block subsidy from 6.25 to 3.125 Bitcoin per block, cutting the number of new Bitcoins in circulation per block by half.
As the Bitcoin price's hashrate continues to rise, driven by companies like Marathon Digital Holdings, Bitmain, Bitfarms, and Riot Platforms, the network becomes more secure and attractive. Despite the upcoming halving, these companies are investing in new hardware and facilities to maintain profitability. The Antminer S21 Pro, launched by Bitmain, sets a new standard for energy efficiency in ASIC miners, capable of operating in challenging environments. As the network grows, so does its potential to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and integration into society with positive effects.
