Munich seeks the top tune for the Wiesn: New Music Contest for Oktoberfest 2025
The 2025 Oktoberfest music competition, known as "A Liad für d'Wiesn," has reached an exciting milestone. The public voting phase, which began on June 12th and ran until July 16th at 24:00, has now closed.
Over the course of a month, participants from all corners of Bavaria submitted a total of 115 songs, eager to contribute to the official Oktoberfest motif of 2025. An expert panel, consisting of individuals versed in Oktoberfest and music, reviewed the submissions, considering factors such as playability, publication date, tent suitability, and lyrics. After careful consideration, eight songs were selected for the online voting process.
During the voting phase, fans from around the world had the opportunity to cast their votes for their favourite songs at the official competition website. This period also saw an exciting bonus for participants - a chance to enter a prize draw organised by the Munich Breweries Association, with 20 winners drawn from the public vote receiving 20 x 4 tickets, including two beer vouchers and one chicken voucher each.
As we move forward, the focus shifts towards the next round of the competition, which is set to begin on June 12th. The top 3 songs, as chosen by the public vote, will have the honour of being performed live at the "Brass Wiesn" festival in Eching on August 2nd.
Dr. Christian Scharpf, Referent for Work and Economy, expressed his delight at the number of musicians participating in the competition, expressing hopes for more regional hits and a platform for the young Bavarian music scene. Benedikt Brandmeier, Tourism and Events Director from the Referat für Arbeit und Wirtschaft, commented on the quality of the selected songs, stating they are perfect for the beer tents.
The 2025 Oktoberfest itself takes place from September 20 to October 5, providing context for the timing of the competition as lead-up to the festival. The first prize for the winner includes a live performance at the press tour of the Wiesn and promotion of the song.
