Nashville Airport Launches GoodMaps for Accessible Navigation
Nashville International Airport (BNA) has launched GoodMaps, an innovative indoor navigation platform designed to enhance accessibility and independence for all passengers. The system, particularly beneficial for individuals with visual impairments, offers narrated descriptions in over 20 languages, catering to international travellers.
GoodMaps uses advanced technology such as LiDAR scanning, AI, and machine learning to create detailed digital maps of the airport. The app was developed using inclusive design principles, focusing on the needs of passengers with visual impairments. BNA is the first airport in Tennessee to implement this technology, supporting travellers of all abilities.
GoodMaps provides turn-by-turn directions through audio cues or on-screen text, guiding passengers to gates, retail, dining, parking, and other airport areas. The platform is available for free download, enabling independent navigation tailored to individual needs.
The launch of GoodMaps is part of BNA's BNA Cares Program, which supports accessibility and inclusion initiatives. By introducing this platform, BNA aims to enable passengers of all abilities to navigate the airport independently and safely, enhancing the overall travel experience.
