New Zealand Launches Mandatory NZeTA for Visa-Exempt Travelers

New Zealand introduces the New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA), a mandatory electronic authorization for visa-exempt nationals and transit passengers entering the country. The NZeTA, valid for two years, allows multiple entries and is linked to the passport used.

All travelers, including those from Forum Island Countries and Chinese citizens in the pilot program, must obtain an NZeTA before traveling. This involves paying the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL).

From November 3, 2025, New Zealand will launch a 12-month pilot test for Forum Island Countries' nationals and a similar program for Chinese citizens. These initiatives aim to facilitate news today travel from Australia to New Zealand without a visa, provided they have a valid NZeTA and, for Forum Island Countries' nationals, an eligible Australian visa.

Before arrival, all passengers must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) at most 24 hours in advance. The NZTD provides health, customs, and security information and should be presented upon arrival to expedite border controls.

The NZeTA simplifies entry into New Zealand for visa-exempt nationals and transit passengers. The upcoming pilot programs further ease news travel for Forum Island Countries' nationals and Chinese citizens, strengthening bilateral ties and encouraging tourism.
