Ninh Thuan earmarks over 10 billion Vietnamese Dong to safeguard and elevate K'te Festival
The Kate Festival, a significant cultural event for the Cham people, is set for a grand revival in Ninh Thuận province, backed by a comprehensive project worth over VND10 billion. With the festival's spiritual essence at the heart, the goal is to preserve its heritage while elevating it as a unique cultural tourism attraction.
Nestled in the heart of Ninh Thuận, the Kate Festival, a nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage, reflects the deep-rooted faith and gratitude of the Cham community towards deities and ancestors. Celebrated annually around September or October, the festival is a vibrant mélange of solemn ceremonies and lively activities, filling the air with music, dance, and sports.
Despite previous support, certain areas still lack infrastructure, with underdeveloped roads, ceremonial grounds, and public facilities. Recognizing these challenges, the newly approved project, spanning 2025-2030, aims to bolster the festival's scale, improve infrastructure, and enhance the overall visitor experience.
"Our aim is to preserve the spiritual core of the Kate Festival, a cultural linchpin of the Cham people, while transforming it into a distinctive cultural tourism product," said Nguyễn Long Biên, Vice Chairman of Ninh Thuận People's Committee. "This will raise awareness and attract visitors to Ninh Thuận."
Beyond this project, Ninh Thuận plans to invest an additional VND50-70 billion in infrastructure projects. These investments will focus on enhancing the road network and facilities connecting to sacred sites associated with the festival, as well as the restoration and conservation of historical towers that serve as spiritual pillars for the Cham people and the festival itself.

Promotional strategies will also be intensified through multiple channels, including social media, television, and international tourism platforms, to showcase the festival's unique charm to a global audience. The goal is to propel the Kate Festival beyond a local tradition, establishing it as a symbol of cultural identity, intergenerational pride, and sustainable cultural tourism.
This ambitious project is expected to turn the Kate Festival into a cherished heritage for the Cham people, boosting Ninh Thuận's reputation as a hub for cultural exploration in Vietnam.
The project, encompassing cultural preservation, infrastructure enhancement, and community-led tourism integration, is intended to elevate the profile of the Kate Festival, attract domestic and international visitors, and ensure the vibrant continuation of Cham traditions in contemporary society.
