In the heart of Japan's Seto Inland Sea, a small island named Inujima is undergoing a remarkable transformation. The Inujima Art House Project, a brainchild of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, is nurturing a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japan in the international community by fostering cultural tourism and community engagement.

This unique initiative, part of the larger Benesse Art Site Naoshima, involves the renovation and repurposing of Inujima's historic homes and industrial ruins into art and community spaces. The project emphasizes ecological and architectural preservation, with architectural luminaries like Kazuyo Sejima playing a significant role in its transformation since 2008.

The current exhibition, "Symbiosis: Living Island," showcases this project's interconnected cultural, ecological, and architectural revival. The exhibition features works by three artists: Beatriz Milhazes from Brazil, Haruka Kojin, and Yusuke Komuta from Japan. The highlight is a permanent pavilion designed by Sejima, a Pritzker Prize laureate, which extends the legacy of the Inujima Art House Project by integrating new architectural spaces into the island’s environment and cultural landscape.

Admission to the exhibition is free, and it is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Monday to Friday) and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Saturday to Sunday). For more information, visitors can check the exhibition's website or social channels: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.

As the "Symbiosis: Living Island" exhibition prepares to close on July 5 in Los Angeles, another exciting event is on the horizon. The "POKEMON X KOGEI" exhibition, which debuts in the U.S. on July 25, will take over two floors at Ovation Hollywood (formerly Hollywood & Highland). This exhibition showcases the intersection of the Pokémon entertainment franchise and Japanese craft techniques, both contemporary and refined over centuries.

The "POKEMON X KOGEI" exhibition features over 70 works created by 20 renowned Japanese artists and offers a place of new discovery that transcends physical and conceptual boundaries. The exhibition is part of an innovative, worldwide project with three hubs - London, Los Angeles, and Sao Paulo.

Inujima, once a symbol of Japan's industrial past, is now a beacon of artistic and ecological revitalization. The Inujima Art House Project and the "Symbiosis: Living Island" exhibition demonstrate how art and architecture can revitalize a dwindling community by fostering cultural engagement and environmental harmony.
