Pope Leo XIV Urges Climate Action, Praised by Schwarzenegger

Pope Leo XIV, the 266th pontiff, has been praised by former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for his environmental efforts. The Pope recently inaugurated a conference celebrating the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis' encyclical 'Laudato Si', emphasizing the importance of caring for our common home.

At the 'Raising Hope for Climate Justice' conference in Castel Gandolfo, Pope Leo XIV criticized those who dismiss climate change and blame the poor. He highlighted the need for 'ecological conversion' and 'integral ecology', urging attendees to care for creation. The event, supported by the Laudato Si’ Movement, involved key Vatican figures and discussed global progress since the Laudato Si’ encyclical. Pope Leo XIV hoped that upcoming U.N. summits, including COP30 in Brazil, will listen to the 'cry of the Earth and the poor'. He told climate activists and leaders that loving God means caring for his creatures and the earth. The Pope called for citizens to pressure governments for rigorous environmental regulations and participate in political decision-making. He asked what the answer will be when God asks if we have cared for the world and our brothers and sisters. Pope Leo XIV emphasized the need for unity around integral ecology and peace in caring for the planet.

Pope Leo XIV expressed gratitude for Pope Francis' 'Laudato Si' encyclical, stressing its relevance today. He continues to advocate for environmental responsibility and climate justice, urging all to play their part in caring for the planet.
