Preparing for the arriving Kadayawan hordes, according to Dcott's readied statement
The Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) is getting ready for an influx of passengers during the upcoming Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival. According to reports, the expected increase in arrivals ranges from 20% to 30%, translating to an additional 900 to 1,000 bus trips per day.
DCOTT's preparations for the festival are part of its ongoing efforts to handle major events in 2025. There are also new buses scheduled to arrive in Davao by September 2025, which may indicate an expansion or improvement in transport capacity around that time.
However, specific details about additional bus trips, permits, or security measures related to Kadayawan 2025 are yet to be disclosed. Further updates from official Davao City government or DCOTT announcements would likely shed light on these operational preparations.
During last year's Kadayawan Festival, bus trips jumped from the usual 700-800 to between 1,000 and 1,500. The daily passenger volume during the festival reached up to 75,000 passengers, more than double the regular daily volume of 35,000 to 40,000 passengers. This year, the expected daily passenger volume could reach up to 45,000 people.
To ensure security, DCOTT staff are working alongside the Civil Security Unit (CSU). The "no pick-up" policy remains in effect at DCOTT, meaning buses cannot load passengers outside the terminal. DCOTT has also partnered with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to issue special permits for additional buses.
In a statement made during a Davao Peace and Security Press Corps briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Usop noted that unlike Holy Week or All Saints' Day, the passenger flow during Kadayawan depends on events hosted by nearby municipalities and provinces. Usop urged both drivers and commuters to follow the rules to keep traffic smooth and ensure everyone's safety. Security has been tightened inside DCOTT to ensure a safe and orderly festival.
As the Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival approaches, DCOTT is gearing up to handle the increased passenger traffic, ensuring a smooth and secure journey for all commuters.
