Romania's longest summer sled track set to debut at Sinaia mountain resort
Ready to ride down the longest summer sledding track in Romania? That's right, the town of Sinaia - famed for its beautiful Peles Castle - is prepping to open a thrilling 2km sled track, some 120 km north of Bucharest. The project, valued at a whopping 2.4 million Euros, is all set to shake up the mountain town's tourism game come August 1.
Sinaia, a winter wonderland with ski slopes attracting close to 2 million tourists annually, is looking to expand its offerings. With the new sled track, it aims to entice visitors year-round, not just during the colder months.
"This winter was good for Sinaia, but the snow's melting faster, the temperatures problematic, windy... you get the picture," said Maria Floricică, the general director of Transport Urban Sinaia, in a conversation with Agerpres. "But our focus right now is on the summer sled. We've got a contract for a single-rail sled installation with 65 bob-style vehicles, running from Cota 1400 to Cota 1000."
The summer sled track will be a record breaker, stretching over two kilometers, and financed by the agency's own funds and a bank loan.
Apart from the summer sled, Sinaia promises a host of entertainment options, including major events and bike trails, to keep tourists pumped during the summer months.
Floricică also stressed the importance of smart and effective tourism promotion, urging greater transparency and communication: "We need to see how the funds are spent, how they reach the people, how the connection is made between tourism promotional efforts and the ground realities."
So, if you're ready for some high-speed mountain adventure, keep an eye on Sinaia – the town's gearing up to be your go-to summer escapade destination!
