Thuringia's Tourism Mixed in July 2025: Overall Dip, but Regions Show Growth

July 2025 saw a mixed bag of results for Thuringia's tourism industry. While the state as a whole experienced a slight dip in overnight stays, certain regions and cities bucked the trend, showing notable increases.

Thuringia logged around 1 million overnight stays in July 2025, a decrease of 7,000 stays and 1.5 percent compared to the same month last year. However, this dip was not uniform across the state. The South Harz-Kyffhäuser region, the Weimar region, and the Thuringian Rhön all saw increases in overnight stays. Leading the pack was Erfurt, which recorded an impressive 8.1 percent increase, despite the overall state decrease.

Looking at the year so far, from January to July 2025, Thuringia registered around 5.6 million overnight stays. Pensions have been particularly popular during this period. The average length of stay in July 2025 was 2.9 days. Nationally, the USA saw around 56.7 million guest overnight stays in July 2025, a decrease of 1.2 percent compared to July 2024.

While Thuringia as a whole saw a slight decrease in overnight stays in July 2025, the state's tourism industry remains resilient. Certain regions and cities, such as Erfurt, the South Harz-Kyffhäuser region, and the Thuringian Rhön, have shown promising growth. Looking ahead, these positive developments could help offset any further declines and maintain Thuringia's appeal as a tourist destination.
