Town of Neukirchen-Vluyn welcomes back its royalty: Andreas and Maria Driske showered in cheerful confetti.
In the vibrant town of Neukirchen-Vluyn, Andreas and Maria Driske have been appointed as the new royal court couple for the upcoming carnival season. With a combined experience of 11 years in the carnival events, they are set to bring their passion and dedication to the role.
Andreas Driske, aged 54, works in retail, while his wife, Maria, who is 53 and a butcher, brings her own unique energy to the duo. The couple, who have been married for 33 years, have been active participants in the carnival for over a decade.
Their son, Demian Driske, is a 20-year-old member of the royal court, adding a youthful touch to the royal family. Andreas Driske will turn 55 four days before the Rosenmontagszug, the main carnival parade.
Jörg Thiem, the President of Vlu-Ka-Ge, the organising committee for the carnival, refers to Andreas and Maria as "full carnivalists." Thiem expects the presence of the royal court couple to boost the influx in the youth area, particularly in the upcoming events.
The proclamation of the prince couple will take place on the 29th of November at the KuCa, and tickets can be obtained from the prince's crew. A base inauguration in connection with a breakfast will take place the next day, the 30th of November, at the Vluyner Stuben.
The wagon consecration is scheduled for the 3rd of February in Issum. During the carnival season, Vlu-Ka-Ge's music band, the Vluyner Stuben, and the city guard will be converted into a prince's guard. Hans-Dieter Hausmann from the Blau-Weissen Funken will be the prince's guide.
Jörg Thiem acknowledges that the couple's lack of 18 years of government experience might lead to some challenges. He asks for understanding and support from the community as the Driskes embark on their new role.
The Driskes have been part of a music band in the past and are currently part of the Moers Obermöhne. Vlu-Ka-Ge is preparing for approximately 150 to 160 appearances for the upcoming events, and the royal court couple is ready to take on their duties as symbolic figures and representatives of the local carnival tradition.
