Travel and tourism activity in Saxony-Anhalt during July 2025
In a recent report released by the State Statistical Office of Saxony-Anhalt on September 17, 2025, it was revealed that the tourism sector in the region experienced a slight decline in July 2025 calendar.
The data, collected from accommodation establishments with 10 or more beds, showed that approximately 331,600 guest arrivals were recorded in July 2025. This represents a 3.6% decrease compared to July of the previous year.
The decrease was more pronounced among domestic visitors, with a 4.8% drop in overnight stays. However, the number of overnight stays from abroad increased slightly by 0.7%. The number of guest arrivals from abroad also saw a modest increase of 0.5%.
Interestingly, the survey did not differentiate between domestic and international guest arrivals and overnight stays. It also did not provide specific information about holiday centres in the data.
The survey, conducted by the State Statistical Office of Saxony-Anhalt, also revealed that 86.8% of guests were from within Germany in July 2025.
From January to July 2025, the number of guest arrivals was approximately 1,897,600, a 0.2% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year. The number of overnight stays was approximately 4,635,200, a 2.3% decrease.
The decline in overnight stays in guesthouses, restaurants, and campsites in Saxony-Anhalt in July 2025 is primarily due to poor weather conditions. The month was marked by low temperatures, fewer sunshine hours, and above-average rainfall with 15 to 20 rainy days. These conditions negatively affected the outdoor hospitality and tourism sector.
Additionally, high taxes, rising prices, and staff shortages in the hospitality industry contribute to the sector's difficulties.
However, it's worth noting that only holiday centres reported increases in both guest arrivals and overnight stays in July 2025.
The data covers the period from January to July 2025. As the summer season continues, it will be interesting to see how these trends evolve.
