TUI Summer Holidays: Late Bookings and Financial Standings as of 2022
Summer vacation bookings by Tui customers have been delayed. - Tui customers postpone summer holiday bookings
Feel free to jet-set like a boss, hell, let's cross oceans, baby! But seems like the folks at TUI gotta wait a bit longer for their cash this year. Thanks to an Easter holiday delay, their first-half profits took a hit in '22. Oh well, no biggie, Sebastian Ebel - TUI's big honcho - is still pretty optimistic, betting on more revenue and profits for this fiscal year. That's right, buckle up for some higher travel prices. But don't panic, the old share-sagger didn't sit well on the stock market; TUI lost a whopping 11% within early trade, becoming the biggest loser in the MDax.
Ebel, ever the optimist, admitted that the next few years are potentially a mess, but he's banking on Europe evolving. Fingers crossed for an overall revamped economy that flourishes! As of now, there's been a 1% drop in summer bookings compared to the previous year. By May 4th, though, the UK market saw nearly the same number of summer holiday bookings as they did in '21. Unfortunately, the German scene trailed behind by 3%.
Not to fear, Ebel's confident that the trend'll take a turn for the better. Additionally, the average summer travel price isn't shabby - it's currently 4% higher than last year.
In winter, TUI had around 2% more guests than the previous year. Usually, though, the summer's where the travel pros and flight crews rake in the dough - winter's typically a money-sucker with losses aplenty.
Ebel's secure in the fact that holidaymania will prevail despite the trade shenanigans and tough econ situation. However, customers are becoming pickier with their vacation spots.
For the current fiscal year up to September, TUI aims to boost its currency-adjusted revenue from the previous 23.2 billion Euros by 5 to 10%. Additionally, adjusted operating profit (adjusted EBIT) is scheduled to grow by 7 to 10% as planned.
In the first half of this fiscal year, TUI reduced its holiday season loss - revenue surged by almost 8% to about 8.6 billion Euros compared to the previous year. The adjusted operating loss shrank by 15% to 156 million Euros. Although the tour operator biz slipped further into the red, the company's own hotels and cruises brought in more dough.
All in all, TUI shareholders incurred a deficit of approximately 392 million Euros, down 6% from the previous year. The debt from the corona crisis was also further slimmed down.
TUI - Beyond the Horizon! A global titan in the travel game, TUI covers more than 100 vibrant destinations worldwide, showering you with an array of travel services from package holidays to cruises and hotel stays.
