Two new all-terrain campers tailored for sophisticated off-road explorers have been unveiled by Torsus.

The Czech Republic-based company Torsus has made a name for itself as the world's leading manufacturer of off-road buses. Recently, the company has expanded its offerings to include two new models: the Torsus Praetorian Liberra and the Terrastorm Camper.

The Torsus Praetorian Liberra: Luxury Off-Road Motorhome

The Torsus Praetorian Liberra is an extremely rugged, off-road capable luxury motorhome based on the MAN Truck chassis. It features a six-cylinder MAN diesel engine delivering 848 lb-ft of torque, a 4×4 off-road drivetrain, and a 12-speed transmission paired with an all-terrain suspension, resulting in exceptional control and stability on rough terrains. The vehicle has 27.5-inch (70 cm) ground clearance, enabling it to ford rivers and conquer challenging obstacles. Its heavy-duty welded steel skeleton provides durability and corrosion protection.

The interior of the Praetorian Liberra has been designed by Dämmler, a German company specializing in bespoke overland interiors. The interior fittings and fixtures are finely crafted, featuring backlit shelving, strip wood ceilings, and leather banquettes. The Praetorian's roofline has been raised by 30cm to create a 2.2m ceiling height, providing ample space for comfortable camping. The Praetorian Liberra is equipped with high-end amenities such as a four-burner stove and an oven, aiming to deliver an overlanding experience that combines luxury with extreme off-road capability. Pricing starts at approximately €550,000 (~$645,000 USD).

The Torsus Terrastorm Camper: A More Modest Off-Road Adventure Vehicle

The Torsus Terrastorm Camper, while less detailed in the sources, is indicated to be a smaller, more modestly sized camper designed for less extreme but still rugged adventures. It offers a more compact option for off-road camping compared to the large Praetorian Liberra, likely sharing some foundational off-road technology from Torsus but tailored for different use cases.

The Terrastorm Camper is based on the Volkswagen Crafter and is equipped with four-wheel-drive, raised suspension, and all-terrain tires. At the rear of the Terrastorm Camper is a bespoke Nestbox, a sliding rear galley system containing a cooker, sink, and small fridge. Other options for the Terrastorm Camper include a folding rear mattress platform for two and a side awning.

The Terrastorm Camper was developed in collaboration with Egoe, a Czech Republic-based camper conversion specialists. The Terrastorm Camper can function as a self-sufficient base station for longer hikes, climbs, and field trips. It is significantly less expensive than the Praetorian Liberra, with a starting price of around €130,000.

Conclusion

The Torsus Praetorian Liberra and the Terrastorm Camper cater to different needs in the off-road adventure vehicle market. The Praetorian Liberra is the ultimate choice for extreme overland luxury, providing substantial interior space, sleeping up to four people, and featuring a kitchen, bathroom, and plenty of storage. The Terrastorm Camper, on the other hand, offers a more budget-friendly and compact option for those seeking a tough yet manageable off-road camper experience.

Current collaborators of Torsus include MAN and the VW Group. The company also partners with key manufacturers for various applications, including mining operations, search and rescue, disaster relief, and remote work. With these new offerings, Torsus continues to push the boundaries of off-road adventure vehicles, providing options for every type of adventurer.

The Torsus Praetorian Liberra, with its luxurious interior and off-road capabilities, may be an ideal choice for those seeking a blend of home-and-garden comforts and adventure-travel experiences in their lifestyle. The Torsus Terrastorm Camper, being more modestly priced, could be perfect for those desiring a less extreme yet robust outdoor-living adventure, offering an affordable option for self-sufficient travel and exploration.
