UAE Sees 275% Surge in Tourism Licences as 2031 Strategy Boosts Sector
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has witnessed a remarkable surge in commercial licences for tourism-related sectors, with a 275 percent increase over the past five years. This growth aligns with the country's long-term economic plans, prioritising tourism as a key driver. By mid-September 2025, the total number of tourism-related licences reached 39,546.
The UAE's Tourism Strategy 2031 is at the heart of this growth. It aims to transform the country into a global tourism hub. The upcoming 'UAE-Africa Tourism Investment Summit' in October 2025 is set to further boost tourism by deepening cooperation with African markets.
In 2024, the UAE welcomed 3.3 million visitors from GCC countries, with Saudi Arabia contributing the most at 1.9 million. Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri credited this success to ongoing reforms in business and investment regulations. Additionally, the planned unified GCC tourist visa, scheduled for a pilot launch later this year, is expected to further integrate regional tourism and enhance the Gulf's overall appeal.
With a 275 percent rise in tourism-related licences and a strategic focus on the sector, the UAE continues to strengthen its position as a global tourism destination. Upcoming events like the 'UAE-Africa Tourism Investment Summit' and the planned GCC tourist visa promise to further boost visitor numbers and investment in the tourism industry.
