UK motorists seek road trip vacations during the summer season this year
In a recent survey conducted by Skoda, British motorists have shown a strong preference for UK road trips as their preferred holiday choice for 2025. The Scottish Highlands emerged as the most desired destination, with 42% of respondents expressing a desire to explore this picturesque region.
The survey revealed that 61% of British holidaymakers are considering a UK road trip, largely due to the cost of living crisis making driving a more affordable option compared to flying. The allure of spontaneity and flexibility on the road also played a significant role in this trend.
The Scottish Highlands, with its stunning natural landscapes, offers a perfect blend of affordability, freedom, and scenic beauty. Other popular destinations included the Lake District, with 40% of respondents expressing a desire to visit, and both the Isle of Skye and St Ives in Cornwall, chosen by 35% of respondents each.
Interestingly, no specific destination was highlighted as prominently as the Scottish Highlands. The survey also found that 7% of respondents are willing to drive in excess of 1,001 miles for a road trip.
Affordability, freedom, and scenic beauty were not the only factors influencing this trend. Good weather, scenic routes, and in-car company were important to 68%, 64%, and 53% of survey respondents, respectively. Furthermore, more than half (55%) of respondents were willing to travel more than 300 miles for a road trip.
The survey also revealed that a third (36%) of respondents would tackle more trips if they had a roof tent. In response, Skoda equipped two Octavia vRS Estates with Tentbox Lite roof tents and installed a Czech-designed EGOE box camping unit in the Octavia Estate's 640-litre boot.
The ongoing cost of living challenges were a significant factor for survey respondents considering a UK road trip. Good snacks were also an important factor in a successful road trip, according to 34% of respondents.
Another interesting finding was that a third (37%) of respondents said a road trip would allow them to incorporate seeing friends and family into the holiday. More than half (52%) of respondents also expressed a desire to be more adventurous and explore places they have never experienced before.
In conclusion, the survey results indicate a strong preference for UK road trips among British holidaymakers in 2025. With the Scottish Highlands leading the way, it seems that the UK's scenic beauty and affordability are proving to be a winning combination for a memorable holiday experience.
