Vietnamese airline, Vietjet, surpasses expectations and clinches the Long Thanh airport development contract.

Vietjet Aviation JSC, a leading Vietnamese airline, has announced the appointment of Nguyen Thanh Son as the company's managing director. This comes as the airline continues to make significant strides in its growth and modernisation strategy.

As of June 30, Vietjet's total assets amounted to over VND112.33 trillion (approximately $4.28 billion). In Q2, the airline transported a total freight volume approaching 29,000 tons, and its ancillary revenue contributed over VND6.89 trillion (approximately $262.98 million).

Vietjet's recent fleet expansion plans are ambitious. At the 2025 Paris Air Show, the airline placed a new order for 100 aircraft and 50 options for new Airbus A321neo aircraft, making it the largest deal at the show. Vietjet also ordered 20 more Airbus A330neo widebody aircraft during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Vietnam, increasing its total A330neo order to 40—the largest globally for that model.

These investments are part of Vietjet's strategy to significantly modernise and expand its fleet. To support this growth, Vietjet has secured approval to invest in and build Aircraft Maintenance Facilities No.3 and No.4 at Long Thanh International Airport, establishing a key national maintenance hub to support its expanded operations.

Vietjet is also taking charge of ground services at the country's largest airports and enhancing ground handling services at major Vietnamese airports. The airline is concurrently expanding its international route network, including new direct flights to Russian cities and Chinese hubs.

In H1, Vietjet continued to assert its position as a new-generation airline with positive business results. The airline achieved separate and consolidated pre-tax profits of 78% and 75% of its annual plan, respectively. Vietjet's pre-tax profit for the first half of 2025 was nearly VND1.6 trillion (approximately $61.04 million).

Vietjet reported aviation revenue of VND35.6 trillion (approximately $1.35 billion) for the first half of 2025. The airline boasted a technical reliability rate of 99.53 per cent and paid over VND4.53 trillion (approximately $172.74 million) in taxes and fees in the first half of 2025.

Vietjet's latest venture is the launch of the direct Singapore - Phu Quoc route, marking a bold step in the airline's regional growth strategy. The airline's operations have been successful, with Vietjet operating a total of 154 routes by the end of Q2.
