Week Concluding 4-6-25: Return of the T's!
Hiking McAfee Knob Near Roanoke, Virginia
Family members picked up Tilly at the airport in Roanoke last week, but Thomas was taken to college instead. The flight scheduled to land at midnight on Wednesday was delayed, causing a 24-hour wait for the next available connection. The group spent the night in a hotel near the airport and spent the following day in Roanoke, choosing to hike McAfee Knob as they waited for Thomas's flight.
McAfee Knob, a popular hiking destination in Roanoke County, offers breathtaking views from the summit and is part of Virginia's Triple Crown, along with Tinker Cliffs and Dragon's Tooth. This 7.8-mile trail with an elevation gain of approximately 1,811 feet presents a moderately challenging hike, yet the serene views of the surroundings make it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts and photographers.
Hikers can opt for the primary route via the Appalachian Trail or take an alternative path via the fire road for a different hiking experience. The trail leads to one of the most photographed spots on the Appalachian Trail. Although it was somewhat humid and buggy on the day in question, the hike was still a success.
Thomas finally joined the family later that day. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn and Makenna will remain in Utah for another two weeks. A vlog documenting the hike, the T's coming home, and pictures of the girls in Utah is available for viewing.
The hike at McAfee Knob in Roanoke offered a stunning experience amidst nature, making it a perfect spot for capturing videos and photos as part of the family's travel lifestyle. After the hike, they eagerly awaited Thomas's arrival, marking the end of a temporary change in their lifestyle.
